Transit District 1 covers the West Side from the Upper West Side through Midtown. Transit District 2 covers the East Side from East Harlem through the Lower East Side. Transit District 4 covers the West Side from Midtown through the Financial District.

The scanner is set to Volume 10, Squelch 3, and a frequency of 471.0875MHz FM DCS025. The New York City Subway is a brutal environment for radio frequencies. As a result, certain calls may phase in or out extremely briefly, but not to a point where the channel is unlistenable. Simultaneously, it is this brutal radio environment that inhibited the New York Police Department's efforts to encrypt all of their frequencies. The only other remaining unencrypted frequencies are Citywide 1, 2, 3 which do announce major incidents.
