Indiana District 1 Skywarn

Indiana District 1 Skywarn is a volunteer amateur radio communications network serving Northwest Indiana and the greater Chicagoland severe weather region. This stream carries traffic from the District 1 repeater system, which supports Skywarn weather spotting, amateur radio public service activity, and related emergency communications.

During severe weather events, trained spotters use this system to relay real-time ground truth reports, including hail, wind damage, rotation, flooding, and other significant conditions. These reports support situational awareness and help move field observations efficiently through the amateur radio network.

The repeater system also supports community service and event communications throughout the region when needed.

Coverage generally extends across the Indiana District 1 area, with linked repeater infrastructure serving multiple counties in Northwest Indiana. Activity levels will vary. During routine conditions, the system may be quiet or carry general amateur radio traffic. During active weather, net operations may become formal and directed.
