Feed Notes

Looking to broadcast Marine VHF channels 16, 65a and 82a which are the Distress and Search and Rescue frequencies on the marine VHF radio.  These frequencies are FM and are obviously unencrypted and available to anyone who has a scanner or marine VHF radio on their boat.

I am the unit leader for the the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue Unit located in Penetanguishene Ontario.  This feed would be of value to not only my crew (who could listen when not actively tasked on a Search and Rescue mission or while away from a radio), but also the general public when a Distress call comes in over the Marine VHF radio.

Generally, (speaking as an Auxiliarist), we (CCGA and Canadian Coast Guard), do not put out any information on these channels that are identifiable as to persons identity or extent of injuries.  This is done on either duplex channels (which would not be part of the feed), or via cell phones.  Communications are generally used to coordinate search and rescue efforts (aside from channel 16 which not only distress, but is also the safety and calling channel).

General public would find this intersting as there potentially could be both air and marine surface assets deployed and working together in a search.

If it is determined that this is not acceptable to have as a general public feed (ie. for general public to listen to), it would still be of great service to my crew to be able to have it as an anonymous feed.  I would leave this up to your discression.

Regards,

Darren Lortie
