Feed Notes

2/3/2010 Switched the antenna to the low band dipole from the multi-band omni-directional discone. Please note on the low band dipole  you will also receive Garrett County, MD on 33.680, Fayette County, Westmoreland County and Indiana Counties on 33.700 You might even hear an unknown transmission on a shared channel. This antenna and scanner is very sensitive and signals from close by might not sound as good as signals further away.

1/29/2010 A vintage Electra BC300  has taken over being the main scanner for the feed. You will notice increased reception. This scanner was hand assembled and soldered around the period of the late 70's or early 80's. They are very good at receiving the frequencies listed below. The antenna to this feed is located in a attic and snow plus weather conditions on and around the roof can alter the reception. The PC that is used is dedicated to the feed and not used for any other reason as is the scanner. This is by far not my primary source of radio equipment. I utilize a much better system that utilizes a much more advanced scanner and an antenna that is well above the ground, in the air with an unobstructed view. However it's not practical for me to use that scanner or PC as it monitors different channels and the PC is used for many other things.

1/9/2011 This scanner is capable of receiving all fire & EMS dispatch radio transmissions on the Route 31 Somerset, Mount Davis, Statler Hill and Richland towers. Mobile field unit radios and portable handheld radio transmissions will vary, by band and location. This scanner is not capable of channel tagging the received frequency, so you will not see on your display what channel is being received. This scanner is not capable of receiving the 800mhz band, which hosts the counties primary communications for the municipal police departments. So no law enforcement channels of any sort are monitored. Per radio reference policy no ems to hospital channel will be monitored. There is no UPS battery backup supply either. So if the feed goes down due to a power loss, the system will need to be manually restarted. Till funding becomes available for a UPS these items will not be addressed.

Channels being actively scanned at this time:
