Channel 1 is North Area dispatch, covering all of the City of Sacramento north of the American River. This includes:
Channel 2 is a shared channel that is used by North Area officers at times. Most of the traffic you hear is Channel 1. Occasionally you will hear two officers agree to "go to 2" for a conversation than would be too long for the dispatch channel.
Sometimes the police department reduces the number of operating channels, so you might occasionally hear traffic relating to Sector 3 (River District / Richards Blvd., Downtown, East Sacramento, and River Park -- basically everything inside City Limits north of US-50). This usually happens at night.
