Feed Notes

This broadcast includes these police dispatch channels:

IMPD Northwest District
IMPD North District
IMPD East District
IMPD Southeast District
IMPD Southwest District
IMPD Downtown District
Lawrence PD
Speedway PD

These agencies operate on the Indianapolis Department of Public Safety's Division of Public Safety Communications (DPSC, formerly MECA) System 1. Fire, EMS, and other agencies which use this system are broadcast on alternative live feeds. Monitoring this complex, computer-controlled digital radio system requires advanced equipment and programming. Reception quality will vary with current conditions.

Radio equipment is a Uniden BCD536HP listening through a Laird Y8063 antenna. To reduce downtime and further improve the listening experience, this scanner now broadcasts via its own dedicated host PC which is used to keep firmware and databases updated. Thanks to Jeff at the Ham Station in Evansville, IN for getting this radio to us quickly and for all they've done over the years to support the amateur radio hobby!

Improvements made 7/2/2015: I am streaming via Wi-Fi to Broadcastify. This is new technology which isn't yet stable, but audio quality is vastly improved vs. the older method of using analog cables to the host PC's line in jack. Please do send problem reports if this feed should go offline or the audio should become garbled or begin looping (I'm well-aware of these recurring issues). I have installed a UPS (battery back-up) and a Wi-Fi controllable Smart Plug. These will keep the feed online during a brief power sag or outage, allow me to power-cycle the scanner, and/or reboot the computer/restart the streaming software as the situation dicates via smartphone anywhere I have internet access. Thanks for your patience and understanding during these "bleeding edge growing pains". I'm doing everything possible to keep the feed online and running smoothly. The Uniden BCD536HP scanner used here is by far the best for receiving this particular system from this particular location, but isn't well-suited to feeding via the conventional methods of analog cables for audio and USB-to-serial for tags. The experience will improve for both me and listeners as developers continue to enhance the robustness of the software and firmware used to bring audio and tags to you.

Happy listening!
