The scanner, modem, and computer are connected to uninterruptable power supplies.  These battery backup systems will keep the feed online for approximately 18 minutes into a power outage.  The idea is to allow listeners to hear emergency services deal with the effects of severe weather or other incidents for a few minutes after the power is knocked out.  The battery backups will also keep the feed from being knocked offline at all by a brief outage.

The scanner is a Radio Shack PRO-197 digital scanner.

Windy conditions will negatively impact scanner reception.
