Feed Notes

Feed monitors Peoria County EMA operations repeater on 154.295MHz for weather spotters and underwater rescue team. Generally, this feed will be very quite, as the repeater has three purposes.

  1. Weather spotting. This is the most common use of this repeater. If weather spotters for Peoria County are activated in times of severe thunderstorms, they will use this repeater to report back weather conditions (rain, wind, hail, tornadoes) from various locations throughout the county.
  2. Underwater rescue: This repeater is used by the underwater rescue team during water rescue events.
  3. Disasters: This repeater will be used for emergency communications if some large scale disaster ever happened. For example, a large earthquake from the New Madrid or the Wabash Valley seismic zones.

In addition, there is a monthly check in with weather spotters and other members of the Peoria County EMA every first Tuesday of the month.

The feed is recieved in Marquette Heights, IL, on a Uniden BC350A scanner, connected to a 1/4 wave car antenna which is sitting on a shelf. The computer is an old Gateway Pentium 4, which will hopefully be replaced with a Rasberry Pi Model B in the near future.
