Feed Notes

Located in the Mortimer Avenue Firehouse in Rutherford, NJ, monitoring South Bergen County Fire Dispatch and Fireground frequencies.   Towns monitored are  Rutherford, East Rutherford, Wallington, Carlstadt, Wood-Ridge, Hasbrouck Heights, Moonachie and North Arlington Fire dispatch.  In addition to the primary dispatch of 154.1600, priority is set to 154.2800 MHz, PL 156.7 (Bergen County Mutual Aid Channel and Rutherford FD FG channel).  Since the purpose of adding these channels are to hear the FG activity (and the feed is primarily for the Rutherford FD website www.rutherfordfire.org), I prefer not to have the dispatch channel set as priority...especially when mutual aid is being called.

The scanner used is a Uniden Bearcat BC780XLT, effective March 27, 2011.  The scanner is attached to the former channel 2 radio transmitter VHF antenna located on the top of the 40-foot radio tower behind the firehouse, which is about 60 feet above sea level.  Since the antenna is a commercial grade two-way radio equipment tuned for VHF-Hi band and the channels being scanned are all VHF-Hi band, the signal reception should be vastly improved, compared to the old location which used a multi-band scanner antenna only 20 feet above ground, and only 30 feet above sea level.

Frequencies monitored are:   154.1600 (167.9), 154.2800 (156.7), 154.2650 (210.7), 154.2950 (156.7), 154.2950 (210.7), 154.1900 (210.7),  154.0850 (110.9), 154.1600 (PL136.5), 154.2050 (DPL 205) and 155.805 (PL 156.7), 154.370 (PL 203.5).  New frequency added 10/9/12:  East Rutherford Fireground 154.235 (DPL 465).

The feed broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The feed goes down every so often, momentarily, for computer updates or technical difficulties beyond my control.  In the event this feed should go down, the feed at the old location (now serving as a backup to this feed) will go back online until the main feed is restored.

Due to storm damage to the antenna, there is a possiblity that the feed will be moved back to the original scanning site in the west end of town, or a scanner antenna will be installed on the existing antenna mast.  It is not likely that the existing antenna will be replaced with a commercial grade antenna, unless a VHF base station is installed at the firehouse, which at this time, is not likely to happen.  Thus, you may have been having some reception issues.  I hope to have a resolution with the antenna issue very soon.  I will keep you updated.
