TWO. NEW. ADDED. MONITORING. RESOURCES. WILL. BE. AVAILABLE. JANUARY 2, 2015.

U.S. COAST GUARD AIR EMERGENCY RESCUE  +  ODOT & LINCOLN COUNTY ROADS 'BLACK ICE' ADVISORIES

*** U.S. Coast Guard Emergency Rescue Radio Traffic Will Now Be Added To Lincoln County Sheriff, Newport and Lincoln Police ***

News has just been posted that the Congressional delegation from our state of Oregon has successfully passed legislation extending the Coast Guard's helicopter rescue resources (which were scheduled to be decommissioned this coming Monday) for an additional year.

This is wonderful news and a great relief to the families of the fishing industry here in Newport as well as to those who frequent other locations along the Oregon coastline which, without notice, can become a sudden emergency due to unexpected weather conditions and, who's safety and, perhaps, even their life may depend on "minutes" instead of hours.

Since this air support could be considered a complementary service to fire, rescue, EMT, law enforcement or any other public safety conduit requiring such air services, I would like to add, provisionally of course, radio data from Coast Guard rescue operatjons including ship and 'hilo', to the feed stream mix currently as it is delivered presently.

The inclusion would be based on a case-by-case need as just adding Coast Guard traffic permanently to the general feed could saturate it and reduce intelligibility. If and when a sea, coastal or mountain rescue scenario should necessitate air support, Coast Guard rescue operations traffic would be temporarily added to the feeds.

This would very likely, not only add to the effectiveness of general situational awareness by more fully providing comprehensive event information to listeners, but would also add yet another agency's operations that the other public safety people monitoring and, perhaps, be useful as well as productive.

*** Oregon Department of Transportation & Lincoln County Road Department 'Black Ice' Advisories ***

Another useful asset to the process, as an additional resource which, oddly enough, does more good for travelers across the region would find very helpful (as much as I do) than public safety channels is the reports on road conditions with regard to freezing and, most importantly, 'black ice'.

The two most significant sources of the ever-changing status of these travel risks are the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Lincoln County Road Department. I have monitored these folks for years and doing so has saved my bacon more times that can be imagined.

Again, this supplemental data is provisional: severe traffic impact upon motor vehicles being subject to weather conditions leading to accidents and personal injury would be the primary indicator.

This provider would like to thank RadioReference.com, Broadcastify.com and particularly, Gordon Edwards for permission to add these inclusions.
