AMR Springfield provides emergency medical transport service and 911 emergency medical dispatching for Springfield, Holyoke, East Longmeadow, and Hampden. Founded in 1996, AMR Springfield employs approximately 322 paramedics and EMTs and handles about 50,000 calls annually. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is the state agency responsible for coordinating federal, state, local, voluntary and private resources during emergencies and disasters in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Communications Dispatchers for MEMA are responsible to monitor all fire reports around the state, severe weather throughout the state, and all seismic activity in New England. They dispatch for the Department of Fire Services, Department of Conservation and Recreation (State Fire Wardens & State Park Rangers), Department of Public Safety, Department of Environmental Protection, and of course the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
