Law Enforcement Dispatch and Fire Dispatch for the Copper Basin area of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia. Specifically, Cherokee County NC, Clay County NC, Graham County NC, Polk County TN, Monroe County, TN, Fannin County, GA, and Union County, GA, including Tennesse HP Dispatch District 2 (low band), Georgia State Patrol High Band, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol VHF-lo analog simulcast for Troop G. Also included is US Forest Service for Cherokee National Forest. Clay County, NC Sheriff is not included as they operate on VIPER in digital mode.  Scanners in use are oldies but goodies...Radio Shack Pro-2050 and Pro-2026.  Please remember this is a mostly rural area, therefore, even scanning over 20 frequencies, there may be long periods of complete silence.  Also, the Highway Patrol frequencies in use are operated in duplex mode, not dual-simplex.  Therefore, you will only hear the base station unless the transmitting trooper is close enough to my location to receive the transmission directly.

I am located in the Copper Basin which is the point where North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee meet and should not be confused with the Tri-State area which is where Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia meet.  Specifically, I am in Cherokee County, NC, 7 miles from the Tennessee line and 2 miles from the Georgia line.   At a height of 2200’ ASL, I am able to receive all of these agencies on a J-Pole antenna tuned to 155.000 MHz.   I also use TwoToneDetect to sound an audible horn if Cherokee County Station 18 (Ranger Vol Fire Dept) or Station 23 (Wolf Creek VFD) are paged since I live in the Ranger Fire District.   North Carolina agencies use the APCO 10 signals.  Pls reference the Wiki article for North Carolina as these 10 codes are very different from those used elsewhere in the country.  For Cherokee County, NC, 400 units are Sheriff;s Dept, 600 units are SHP, 700 units are Andrews PD, and 800 units are Murphy PD.
