Mobile users: I reccomend using the "Scanner Radio" app for iOS and Android. Save this feed in your favorits list (by tapping the star next to the feed name) and enable Broadcastify alerts for your favorites. When an alert is issed for a noteworthy event for the Dare County feed, it will show up on your device so you can listen in! In addition, this app will display alerts and alpha tags, which most other apps don't.

This feed is provided as a courtesy to anyone who does not have the money or skill for a digitial scanner setup and is interested in listening to Dare County's finest! Additionally, any new or non-programmed talkgroups are still picked up, but without alpha tags. Only encrypted law enforcement tactical/admin traffic and Dare County school buses are NOT scanned on this sytem.

Talkgroups scanned on NC VIPER 800MHz multicast system (Bodie Island/Nags Head site only):

VIPER Dare talkgroups (most traffic consists of some mutual aid, Dare Medflight, some Dare EMS pre-hospital patient reports, and other medical helicopters landing at Outer Banks hospital)
NC State highway Patrol Troop A1 (Currituck & Dare County troop, also including Mutual aid and air units)
Other talkgroups include Emergency Management, NC HART, NC Forestry, and VA Interop (talkgroups are only active in emergencies)
Additional talkgroups that may be turned on during emergencies or other events include additional SHP talkgroups, NC SMRT/SMAS, statewide public safety, Civil Air Patrol, NC Wildlife, NC Marine Fisheries, NC state parks, NCDOT, National Guard, ALE, and the State Medical Response Team.

Please note! Sensitive and otherwise private law enforcement traffic is encrypted and is not heard in this scanner feed! There is also an approximately 30-60 second delay from actual transmission as well

Feed is currently provided by a Uniden BCD996XT fed by a roof mounted 10dBi Terrawave 800MHz yagi antenna and 25" of LMR-400 coax cable. Intel Atom 230 based thin client running Windows Server 2008R2 is used for the server. RS232 serial cable and onboard sound card are used for the connection.
