The Iredell County Sheriff’s Department provides general law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of the County in addition to maintaining the jail and courthouse secuirity. Iredell County covers 598 square miles with a population (in both incorporated and unincorporated areas) of over 155,000 and is generally considered the home of Nascar racing. Iredell County has two major interstate highways which cross the county roughly north-south and east-west and are patrolled by the NC State Highway Patrol. Iredell County also shares its southern border with Mecklenburg County, which is home to Charlotte, NC, the largest city between Washington DC and Atlanta GA.
